Comtec Introduces Portable Receipt Printer

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 4/1/1999

Comtec Information Systems Inc. has introduced a two-inch portable receipt printer called "Cameo 2." The unit is available with an optional magnetic card reader.

Weighing only one pound, the Cameo 2 printer is designed to be clipped to an operator's belt. It can print custom receipts, including bar codes, text, and graphics at a width of 76.2mm. The printer is ideal for such applications as retail point-of-sale transactions; route accounting and package transportation and distribution; and product identification, shelf-bin labeling, and work in process in manufacturing.

Cameo 2's housing is constructed from "Texan," a material used in automobile bumpers. The manufacturer says that the unit is shock-protected to withstand multiple 8-inch drops to concrete.

The printer has a "clamshell" design that allows for drop-in paper loading. It contains a NiMH type battery that can print for eight hours or more on a single battery charge. It also features non-volatile flash memory for downloadable programs, including label formats, scalable fonts, and graphics. FOR INFORMATION CIRCLE 127
