Caterpillar Redesigns Cushion-Tire Trucks

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 1/1/1999

Caterpillar Lift Trucks has launched its new 7,000- to 15,500-pound capacity gas and LP gas cushion-tire truck models GC35K and GC70K.

To increase operator comfort and productivity, the GC35K and GC70K offer a restraint system that automatically compensates for body contour changes when an operator turns to travel in reverse. Other features include a tilt steering wheel with infinite adjustment positions, an ergonomic layout that places control levers in the swing of the operator's right arm, a contoured steady-rest molded into the seat back, and an expanded open step.

In addition, Caterpillar designed the cooling system in its GC35K and GC70K models to reduce overheating. The models feature a three-channel cooling system with a vertical-flow radiator to keep engine coolant, engine oil, and transmission oil at or below recommended operating temperatures.

The 7,000- to 15,500-pound capacity lift trucks use two different transmissions. A single-speed transmission is used on trucks with capacities through 12,000 pounds. Larger models are equipped with a two-speed automatic transmission.
