Not all Mexican trucks are new or legal. Just as with trucks in the US. I have seen plenty of Mexican trucks in the US that could not pass a DOT inspection. I am not in agreement with allowing Mexican trucks in the US because we have a hard enough time getting loads that pay well. I am also against Canadian Trucks coming into the US. So do not think I am just against the Mexican drivers. I have been driving for 32 years and I have seen good and bad from all three Countries. But we do not need to add to our own problems with other Countries trucks here causing accidents. Trucking is a job that requires drivers to use good common sense and look out for others on the highways.

Is anyone surprised that Jimmy Hoffa and the Teamster used this tragic and senseless accident to push forward their protectionist agenda? This accident referenced on the Pharr-Reynosa bridge had nothing to do with the cross border program nor is it indicative of the professionalism of Mexican professional drivers. These were two border shuttle trucks that do not have authority to transit past the commercial zone nor are they or their companies involved in the cross border program A driver made an illegal U-turn. A common occurrence when the truck has been called back for various reasons. And one of those reasons is not to avoid inspection as the Teamsters and others have insinuated. It was a bone headed move. The driver will be charged and without regard to the outcome of the legal case, the Mexican driver has lost his license in Mexico for at least 10 years, possibly for life. The other accident involving the ammonium nitrate truck occurred on September 11, 2007 when a pickup truck returning from a beer run outside of Monclova Coahuilla, illegally passed the big rig, came in to soon and started the fire that caused the explosion. The tractor that was destroyed was a 2007 International, and by all accounts, legal. Here again, this has nothing to do with the cross border program. Mexican trucks, those used in line haul operations are the exact same trucks as we use in the US. No difference. People need to get away from the protectionist, isolationist and nativist rehetoric that organizations like the Teamster\'s and OOIDA are trying to foist on an unsuspecting populace
