Services

Staff -- Logistics Management, 1/1/2002

Target Logistic Services, a domestic and international transportation and logistics company, has opened a full-service facility in the growing Salt Lake City market. The new facility, which includes a 28,000-square-foot warehouse, offers air and ocean transport, inventory control, quality inspections and distribution services throughout the United States and to major international destinations.

Less-than-truckload carrier Central Transport has launched a day-definite service called Ace Guaranteed Next Day that is now available on more than 500 next-day lanes in the carrier's core Midwestern markets. Offered for a 15-percent premium over the carrier's regular rates, Ace is available in all of Indiana and Ohio, most of Michigan, northeastern Illinois, western Pennsylvania and northern Kentucky.

Users of the Internet Truckstop, an online freight-matching service, can now use PINTAC, a visual search tool that lets users determine both freight availability and capacity in a specified state destined to a particular region. PINTAC, which is designed for use by parties posting freight or searching for freight, is available at www.truckstop.com.

Milan Express Co., a Milan, Tenn.-based multiregional carrier serving the South and Midwest, has introduced three enhanced service options for time-sensitive shipments: Quality service, Guaranteed service, and Expedited service. The latter is designed to meet or even exceed standards for airfreight or hotshot service.

CSX Lines now uses the Internet to make available "Just in Time" data that will save money for customers shipping containers to Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Using the new container availability calculator, shippers can reduce by several hours the amount of time truck drivers have to sit at the port of discharge waiting to pick up containers.

Pitt Ohio Express has added two new divisions that handle truckload brokerage and intermodal services. Through its affiliate company Keystone Dedicated Logistics, Pitt Ohio Truckload will be able to handle volume shipments from anywhere in the carrier's service area to locations throughout North America. Pitt Ohio Intermodal will provide door-to-door service with scheduled transit times.

Elite Resources Group, a search firm specializing in logistics, distribution, trucking and allied industries, has opened a Web site, www.elite-rg.com.
