The number of tracking and tracing products available today means shippers now have a wide variety of options to help them collect, manage, and transmit tracking data more effectively.
Ten years ago, tracking and tracing products were a rarity, but it's a very different story today. The development of operational strategies like Just-In-Time (JIT) manufacturing, Efficient Consumer Response (ECR), and Vendor-Managed Inventory (VMI) means that shippers, carriers, and their mutual customers need to know where inventory is at all times. And they need to get that information quickly and
accurately. Fortunately, their needs are being met by a wide variety of tracking and tracing products that are on the market today. Here is just a sampling of some of the newest of these products.
Digital Promotions Inc. has launched "RoadCall," a new communications service designed to give fleet owners and brokers an easy, affordable way to track and communicate with their drivers.
By assigning a fleet its own "800" number and tracking numbers for each driver, RoadCall is able to identify who and where drivers are each time they call in. Fleet owners have the ability to assign personal mailboxes for each driver, offering them controlled calling privileges from the road.
Authorized drivers can call into the fleet's 800 number, log in with their PIN number, and place a pre-authorized amount of calls. RoadCall logs important information about each call and offers reports that are available by e-mail or fax.
RoadCall is offered nationwide and also is available to larger fleets as a complete turnkey solution.
