Air

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 10/1/1999

The high cost of fuel and an economic recovery that has more U.S. passengers flying than ever is taking its toll on airfreight rates. From July to August, scheduled airfreight rates rose 0.4%. Compared to a year ago, airfreight rates are up 3.1%. The forecast doesn't call for airfreight rates to soar too much in the year ahead. Higher interest rates and a slowdown in the U.S. economy will likely make consumers jittery about spending too much money on airfare for vacations. With passenger traffic slowing down, freight shippers may have a bit more negotiating leverage. % CHANGE VS.: 1 month ago 6 mos. ago 1 yr. ago
