Aberdeen report: SAP, Oracle users seeking on-demand supply chain applications

Staff -- Logistics Management, 5/10/2006

BOSTON—SAP and Oracle users are seeking alternatives to “license and install” or on-premise supply chain applications, according to a new report by research firm, Aberdeen Group.

Of the 208 enterprises surveyed nearly 60 percent of Oracle respondents and almost half of SAP users indicated that they are currently using or plan to consider using on-demand supply chain applications.

Highlights from the report include:

  • 68 percent of Oracle respondents and 74 percent of SAP clients report that they are highly influenced to look at on-demand solutions because they want quicker implementation times and faster ROI.

  • 79 percent of Oracle users and two-thirds of SAP users indicate that they are somewhat or highly influenced to consider on-demand alternatives because their on-premise supply chain application is not capable of fully meeting their needs.

  • 26 percent of SAP users say they are likely to look to their ERP vendor for an on-demand SCM solution, compared with 12 percent of Oracle users. Both SAP and Oracle users say they are most likely to look toward an on-demand SCM specialist.
