Port of New Orleans at full speed

Staff -- Logistics Management, 10/6/2005

NEW ORLEANS, LA P&O Ports North America, Inc. reported that operations at the Port of New Orleans are in full swing and running smoothly. General cargo operations continue to increase steadily as more vessels have returned to the port since it re-opened on September 13.

All four gantry cranes at Napoleon Avenue are operational and the entry gate, yard, and marine operations are fully functional. The port has achieved interconnectivity via the web and EDI.  Labor availability expands weekly as more workers return to the port. Marad vessels supplied by the U.S. Department of Transportation provide many workers and relief personnel with essential lodging and food. P&O Ports expects to handle a total of 10 vessel calls this week at its Nashville and Napolean Avenue terminals. CP Ships is currently conducting import and export operations for their vessels at the port. Mediterranean Shipping Company is also conducting export operations at the port and plans to begin import operations next week.
