Software Gives Drivers More Accurate, Detailed Directions

Rand McNally has integrated its new "MileMaker SP32'' software with its Motor Carrier's Road Atlas to provide an industrywide, low-cost solution for dispatcher and driver routing.
Dispatchers can send routing instructions over their mobile-communication systems from MileMaker SP32 to drivers on the road. This data is pre-coded and cross-referenced to the road atlases drivers carry in their trucks. According to the manufacturer, this allows drivers to have both the data and the visual detail they need without placing costly graphics terminals in every cab.
MileMaker SP32 has incorporated 32-bit technology for faster performance. It also includes an additional 30,000 geographic points compared to the previous version. The increased map density improves fuel-tax and out-of-route calculations.
The Motor Carrier's Road Atlas contains 176 pages of maps, regulations, and directories showing low-clearance locations, permanent weigh stations, restricted routes, and other information of use to drivers.
