Prepare for 05: Take the quiz!
By Mike Levans, Chief Editor -- Logistics Management, 12/1/2004
In a year-end editorial it's customary for an editor to offer wistful introspection or a list of thoughtful, industry-related resolutions that he knows will quickly fall by the wayside. This year, though, I'm going to do something completely different: I'm simply going to urge you to take the Logistics Management quiz that begins on Page 13.
The LM quiz comprises 25 questions that have been pulled directly from the pages of our January 2004 to November 2004 issues. If you have an entire year of LM stacked neatly behind your desk, I assure you that you'll find every one of the answers in due time. However, I strongly suggest going to www.logisticsmgmt.com and conducting your research using the "Search" box at the top, right-hand corner of our home page.
A logistics quiz may initially strike you as frivolous; but rest assured, there's a method to our madness. While some answers will jump immediately to mind, many of the questions demand that you revisit subject matter that profoundly resonated in the minds of logistics managers this year: the factors behind sustained rate hikes, alterations to Mexican trucking regulations, the origins of today's capacity squeeze, and the effects of the new hours-of-service rules, to name but a few.
Taking our test will help you better understand not just how those issues and events altered the transportation and logistics market this year, but also how they will impact the way you go about your business in 2005. In short, consider the successful completion of the quiz as a way to construct your own personal Year-in-Review research study.
If you use LM's Web site for research, the entire test should take about 20 minutes. To complete the quiz and officially enter to win an Apple iPod digital music player, go to www.lmsurveys.com/quiz, fill out the electronic version of the questions that appear in this issue, and submit your answers online. We'll conduct a drawing for one winner among those who score 100 percent. Who said learning wasn't fun?
Subtle changes to LM in 2005: Beginning with the January issue, LM readers will notice a number of design changes geared to enhance overall readability. The first, and most obvious, will be the debut of our new, streamlined logo, chosen to better represent a logistics industry that's quickly adapting to new technologies and market realities. Our new type selections, section headers, pull-out information boxes, and more will offer a cleaner look and the easiest read in the market. Look for these design tweaks next month.
