Global logistics: FedEx Trade Networks continues global expansion with new location roll-outs

Expanding its global presence, FedEx subsidiary opens up new freight forwarding offices in Asia and Latin America.

Jeff Berman, Group News Editor -- Logistics Management, 8/5/2009

MEMPHIS—In an effort to expand its global presence, FedEx Trade Networks, a subsidiary of FedEx, announced earlier today it has opened up new freight forwarding offices in Asia and Latin America.

Its Asia-based offices are in Singapore, Taiwan and Qingdao, Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzen, China. Company officials said these offices support its international air freight forwarding operations and coverage in Asia-Pacific trade lanes. And in Latin America, FedEx Trade Networks rolled out a San Paulo, Brazil-based air and ocean forwarding office.

“This expansion is part of the FedEx global growth strategy, which is focused on continued enhancement of the global network and portfolio of services in an effort to provide broad-based customer solutions,” said Trish Beeman, FedEx Trade Networks senior marketing and communications specialist. “In this case, FedEx Trade Networks is building out operations in line with customer demand in the regions.  We know that customers want complete and reliable solutions from a single brand that include express/premium air and air/ocean international freight forwarding.  This expansion will enable us to deliver on these customer needs.”

FedEx cited various benefits these new locations will provide shippers, including:

  • enhanced global freight forwarding services and end-to-end multimodal solutions;

  • direct access to local personnel with industry experience and local expertise to meet customer needs;

  • expanded regional access to services, including international direct distribution, and supply chain visibility, online FedEx trade tools such as WorldTariff and trade and customs advisory services; and

  • increased access to the FedEx global network and seamless support across other FedEx operating companies in markets.

Beeman added that along with these benefits the expansion will enable FedEx Trade Networks to better serve its customers through increased local market presence, providing enhanced freight forwarding service offerings, productivity and end-to-end support.   She explained that expanding the footprint of FedEx Trade Networks demonstrates that the company is listening to customers who have indicated that they prefer providers with a physical presence in the regions they trade with.  Customers can continue to choose FedEx Trade Networks services as a complete package, or take advantage of individual services as needed, according to Beeman.

Last year, FedEx Trade Networks opened flagship offices in Asia, with air freight forwarding operations in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

FedEx Trade Networks provides variety of logistics services to more than 30,000 customers of all sizes, with retailers and high-tech electronic manufacturers particularly benefiting from its freight forwarding services. These services include customs brokerage, ocean and air international freight forwarding, global order logistics, distribution and surface transportation, trade advisory services, and advanced e-commerce and trade facilitation offerings.
