Air Freight-Emery Worldwide has expanded its intra-Asia Gold Priority Express service to include Singapore, Korea, Thailand, India, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and mainland China. The guaranteed door-to-airport or door-to-door service offers one- or two-day transit times. TNT, the global express company, has opened a new North American hub at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. The facility is 25 percent larger than the previous one and offers daily 757 freighter service to TNT's European hub in Liege, Belgium. DHL has launched a customized Web site for customers in Latin America and the Caribbean region. The site (www.la-reg.dhl.com) offers information in English, Spanish, French, and Portuguese, allowing customers to track packages in their own languages.

Ocean Shipping-TMM Lines has added 500 refrigerated, controlled-atmosphere containers to its fleet. The 40-foot high-cube containers are made of steel to ensure better control of atmosphere and temperature. Crowley Liner Services has increased sailings between Port Everglades, Fla., and Manzanillo, Panama, and Puerto Limón, Costa Rica, to every five days. The change increases frequency and capacity on that route by 40 percent. Matson Intermodal System has acquired Paragon Transportation Group, a specialist in intermodal shipments of food products, clothing, chemicals, and paper. Columbia Coastal Transport LLC has added five container barges to its fleet of feeder and project cargo vessels. The company offers container service between 14 ports on the U.S. East Coast plus Freeport, the Bahamas.

Freight Forwarders-BAX Global now offers weekly ocean freight consolidations to Japan, China, and South Korea, giving the company coverage of the entire Pacific Rim. BAX Global already offered consolidation services throughout Southeast Asia and the Philippines. Phoenix International Freight Services has opened its 25th U.S. office, in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. The office will be headed by Ken and Cathy Lopez, who together have nearly 40 years of experience in freight forwarding and customs brokerage.
