Monitors Track Temperature-Sensitive Products in Transit

Polyfoam Packers Corp. has introduced new in-transit monitors for documenting the conditions encountered by temperature-sensitive products during shipment. One of these new products, the TempCheck, acts as a cost-effective strip chart temperature recorder. The unit, which is driven by a high-torque quartz motor, displays the time and temperature on strip chart paper in both the Celsius and Fahrenheit scales.

The c\temp Electronic Temperature Loggers are a family of single-use temperature recorders that will record to -80 C without a probe. Designed for measuring temperatures during the transportation of chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and vaccines, the loggers incorporate an internal thermistor that accurately notes time and temperatures for user-selected readings in Celsius, Fahrenheit, or Kelvin, the manufacturer says.

The edl Electronic Data Logger is a premium data recorder with 32k memory that offers±0.1 C accuracy for companies shipping samples long distances. It uses a high-quality internal thermistor for measuring temperatures. The edl features programmable alarm limits. Should the temperature reach levels outside the limits, the onboard red light-emitting diode will shine until reset.

Users need only a standard RS232 serial cable to download information from the recorders to a computer.

Tiny Bar-Code Scan Engines Are Suitable for Use in Cell Phones

Intermec Technologies Corp. has introduced a new line of bar-code scan engines that range from units the size of a sugar cube to some that are smaller than a paper clip. The engines are based on Intermec's miniaturized light-emitting-diode (LED) technology.

These tiny scan engines can be incorporated into personal communications and information devices such as cell phones and personal digital assistants. Although aimed at the consumer marketplace, the engines can be used in industrial equipment.
