Penske Auto Centers will implement E3's E3SLIM inventory-management system in its 657 centers nationwide. The new system is intended to standardize inventory management, reduce inventory, and increase profitability.

UPS Logistics Group, a subsidiary of United Parcel Service, has announced that it's been chosen by Compaq to manage the computer company's North American service-parts network. In addition to managing Compaq's transportation carriers and service-parts inventory, the subsidiary will provide field stocking, central warehousing and distribution, closed-loop returns, and order-fulfillment services.

Cisco Systems has selected third-party logistics provider Redwood Systems to help reduce back-end supply and inventory-carrying costs at Cisco's electronics manufacturing operations in the United States and Mexico. Under the contract, Redwood manages receiving and warehousing of assembly parts used to manufacture Cisco's networking products.

USF Processors, a logistics subsidiary of USFreightways Corp., has signed an agreement with United Supermarkets to provide full-service reverse logistics service to the company, which operates supermarkets in Texas. USF Processors will process unsaleable and returned merchandise for United stores at its facility in Lubbock, Texas.

PNV Inc., a company that provides bundled telecommunications, Internet access, cable television, and online industry content to truck drivers at truck stops, has announced an alliance with America Online Inc. PNV's content and services for the trucking and logistics industry will be available across several AOL brands.

Bekins Group, a provider of third-party logistics and fulfillment operations for vertical industries, has entered into a partnership agreement with Lilly Software Associates for the development and implementation of a complete end-to-end, third-party logistics application.

Logistics.com has announced that Bridgestone/Firestone Inc. has for the second time chosen to use OptiBid, Logistics.com's bidding and lane-assignment system and associated methodology. The agreement comes 18 months after the company first successfully used the OptiBid process to negotiate its annual transportation service provider contracts.

QRS Corp., a provider of e-commerce solutions to the retail industry, has signed an agreement with The Kroger Co., a retail food company. QRS will provide Kroger with e-commerce services to support online purchase orders, invoices, and shipping notices as well as provide enterprisewide connectivity, including facilitation of trading partner transactions.

QUALCOMM Inc. has partnered with software provider Carrier Logistics Inc. to offer Carrier Logistics' FACT2000 and ROUTRONIC 2000 software to integrate with QUALCOMM's OmniTRACS and OmniExpress mobile communications systems. FACT2000 handles everything from freight pickup and delivery to general ledger, and ROUTRONIC 2000 expedites platform planning as well as the routing and dispatching functions.

e-Chemicals Inc., a provider of e-supply chain solutions for the chemicals industry, has announced that Eastman Chemical Co. will target up to $60 million of its combined chemical purchases and sales, as well as related financial settlements, to flow through e-Chemicals' e-supply chain solution. Eastman has also made an equity investment in e-Chemicals.

ShipLogix has formed an alliance with Cleveland-based Commercial Transportation Services (CTS) to provide the platform for its shipment-rating module. CTS's FreitRater software will be used to facilitate ShipLogix Rating, an electronic tool for analyzing cost/service options.

Autoliv Inc., the Swedish-based developer and manufacturer of automotive safety systems, has selected GeoLogistics Corp. to manage all aspects of international transportation and distribution for the sensitive airbag components it manufactures in North America.
