Industry leaders to move on

Staff -- Logistics Management, 2/1/2003

The nation's capital will soon witness the departure of two well-known industry association leaders.

Edward M. Emmett announced last month that he will leave his post as president of the National Industrial Transportation League (NITL) in May. Emmett cited personal reasons in his resignation, and said he would be returning to his home state of Texas.

Emmett, a former Interstate Commerce Commissioner, has headed NITL since 1992. During his tenure, Emmett opened up membership in the organization, which traditionally had been reserved for shippers, to include carriers as full-fledged members. NITL is expected to name Emmet's successor later this spring.

Carol B. Hallett will step down as president and CEO of the Air Transport Association this month. Hallett joined ATA in 1995 after serving as U.S. Customs Commissioner in the first Bush Administration. James C. May, formerly executive vice president of the National Association of Broadcasters, will take over the reins of the group, which represents U.S. airlines and air cargo companies.
