BAX: Strike talks not affecting service

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 9/1/2000

Bax Global Inc., a $2.1 billion transportation and supply chain management company, has responded to criticism from the Teamsters Union by issuing a statement saying that strike talks at one of its subsidiaries are not affecting service to customers. The BAX statement says that aircargo subsidiary Air Transport International is continuing to negotiate with the Teamsters, which represent crew members. The union had issued a public statement last month claiming that BAX was mismanaging the airline by using more-expensive contractors instead of staff to handle shipments.

If a strike were to occur, it would require a 30-day cooling-off period before taking effect. BAX is telling its customers that a strike during the fourth quarter is unlikely.
