When time is of the essence...

New materials-handling equipment designed to boost productivity helps warehouse workers move, store, and cross-dock goods quickly

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 6/1/1998

As more companies shorten their supply chains, they require materials-handling equipment on the loading dock and in the warehouse that will help them speed materials or products to customers. That materials-handling equipment allows warehouse workers to move, store, pick, and cross-dock items quickly and efficiently.

It's high time, says the head of the Material Handling Industry of America (MHIA), that logistics managers turned their attention to new equipment designed to boost productivity in warehousing and distribution. Logistics managers need to better "understand materials-handling equipment so they can shorten the supply chain," says A.L. Leffler, MHIA's chief executive officer.

What follows is a roundup of some new equipment that was introduced at the North American Material Handling Show, a recent MHIA-sponsored trade show in Detroit.
