WMS Software Offers Alternative to Radio-Frequency System
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 9/1/1999
TRW Inc.'s Logistics Execution Solutions unit, a warehouse management (WMS) systems provider, has released its Palm Computing Technology for the MARC-CS WMS product. Linked with the MARC-CS Windows NT-based solution, the Palm Computing Technology is a paperless alternative to a full-scale radio-frequency (RF) system.
This technology combines Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) or palm computing devices with the MARC-CS product. Using a touch-screen graphical user interface, the Palm PDAs enable real-time interactions. According to the manufacturer, the PDAs increase shipping and inventory accuracy.
The MARC-CS Palm Computing Technology is available in three product architectures requiring no physical connectivity. Batch Hot Sync allows users to download groups of assigned or scheduled tasks at terminals on a regular basis and requires no additional information technology infrastructure.
The infrared connectivity (IR) option gives users an IR drop at locations throughout the warehouse. In addition, radio-frequency connectivity allows the palm computing devices to be linked to the warehouse's existing RF network.
TRW's MARC-CS system is fully integrated with the 3Com Palm V and the Symbol SPT1500 PDAs. The service is available immediately.
