Two Software Vendors Choose New Names

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 8/1/1999

What's in a name? Although Shakespeare might argue that a rose by any other name still smells as sweet, two software firms believe that new monikers will make their products more attractive to logistics managers.

Haushahn Systems and Engineers of Grand Rapids, Mich., has changed its name to Provia Software. The company says the name "Provia" was chosen because of the word's combined Latin roots. The Latin word "provenio" means "proven," while "via" means "a way" or "a road." Hence the new name reflects the company's proven, tested software products, says Paul Christ, vice president of global sales and marketing.

Meanwhile, St. Paul Software of St. Paul, Minn., also has adopted a new name--SPS Commerce Inc. The change reflects the company's decision to expand beyond simply providing electronic-commerce software to offering business-to-business e-commerce services as well.
