COOKEVILLE, Tenn.—As part of its national expansion efforts, Averitt Express, a provider of freight transportation and supply chain management services, said it has added new locations in Kalamazoo, Michigan and Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
Company officials said Averitt was previously providing truckload service into and out of Michigan and Pennsylvania, adding that these new locations enable the company to position additional trucks in the Michigan and Pennsylvania areas to quickly respond to local demand for truckload services.
“We've had a presence in both of these markets for several years, but increased customer demand for Averitt's asset-based truckload services into and out of these states definitely influenced our expansion,” said Brad Brown, Averitt spokesman. Brown noted that Averitt had previously discussed this expansion several times in the past, but these expansion plans did not start to take shape until early during the first quarter of this year.
In terms of shipper benefits regarding this expansion, Brown said it means more coverage, providing more truckload shipment options for customers.
When asked how many shippers Averitt will serve in Michigan and Pennsylvania with this expansion, Brown explained it is hard to gauge, because the company expects its expansion in these markets to foster recognition of the Averitt brand. He added that the majority of Averitt’s top 50 customers already have “consistent volumes” moving into an out of these states.
