Airfreight--DHL Worldwide Express has introduced "WorldFreight," a time-definite service for non-express heavyweight consignments weighing more than 220 pounds. United Parcel Service has added DC8 flights six times per week to Penang, Malaysia, via its Taipei hub.Ocean--Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has consolidated its U.S. service centers into four locations: Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, and Charleston, S.C. Direct Container Line, an NVOCC, has added weekly FCL and LCL service to Vienna, Austria, with onforwarding to eastern European destinations.
Freight Forwarders--Union-Transport has strengthened its presence in Asia by acquiring its former agents in Singapore and Taiwan; establishing offices in Tianjin and Beijing; entering a space agreement with Polar Air Cargo from Hong Kong to the United States; and forming a fashion division to handle apparel imports from Asia to the United States. Danzas has opened a cargo-handling facility in Sydney, Australia, one of the company's fastest-growing markets. The 20,000 square-foot facility includes warehousing, cargo handling, and perishables storage areas. MSAS has opened a new Latin American gateway logistics center in Miami. The 65,000 square-foot facility includes 50,000 square feet of warehouse space with state-of-the-art inventory-control, telecommunications, and security capabilities. Hellmann International Forwarders has introduced Hellmann Perishable Logistics to handle door-to-door transport, storage, and tracking of perishable goods between major cities in the United States, Chile, Australia, and New Zealand.
