Capital Equipment

By Daryl Delano -- Logistics Management, 1/1/1998

Despite solid industry demand, there's been little sign of inflation in transportation capital-equipment markets. The government's producer price index for both light and heavy trucks declined between October and November 1997. Taken together, truck and truck-trailer prices were actually slightly lower in late 1997 than in late 1996. Railroad-equipment prices have been a little firmer, but even here it continues to look like a buyer's market.
