* Con-Way Western Express, based in Buena Park, Calif., and G.I. Trucking Co., based in La Mirada, Calif., were given the 1997 President's Trophy for safety by the American Trucking Associations.

* SonicAir, an integrated third-party logistics service company based in Scottsdale, Ariz., was awarded the 1997 Arizona Enterprise Award for Best Business Practices. SonicAir was recognized for its outstanding achievement in the Motivating and Retaining Employees category.

* Viking Freight Inc. was presented with the Strategic Transportation Partnership Award by Leggett and Platt. Viking was the only western regional carrier among the five carriers given this award. Criteria for the award included on-time delivery, information technology, OS&D, non-conformance affecting customers, non-conformance affecting Leggett and Platt, billing accuracy, and customer feedback. Leggett and Platt, based in Carthage, Mo., manufactures engineered systems and components for furniture and commercial fixtures.

* H&H Unlimited Inc., a Landstar Logistics agency based in Brandon, Fla., has earned GTE Directories' Small Business Supplier of the Year Award for companies with fewer than 500 employees.
