Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems aren't providing the functionality

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 1/1/1999

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems aren't providing the functionality required for most of today's distribution operations. That's one conclusion reached by the report Warehouse Systems and the Supply Chain, published by the Warehousing Education & Research Council (WERC) and Andersen Consulting's distribution practice. The study, based on a survey of more than 200 warehouse and information-technology executives, also reports that warehouses are shifting from using customized system solutions to packaged software. The executives surveyed said that eCommerce would have an increasingly greater influence on distribution and more companies would use the Internet to manage the supply chain. Contact WERC at (630) 990-0001 for more information about the study.
