Air

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 1/1/1999

Although jet-fuel costs have plummeted a full 23.0% from year-ago levels, shippers waiting to see cost savings translate into lower air rates have been largely disappointed. In November, rates for scheduled air freight rose 0.8% above October rates and fell only 5.9% from year-ago levels. Even worse, November rates for scheduled express service stood unchanged from October rates and rose 30.0% from year-ago levels. Forecasts call for air-transport costs to continue rising.
