The cost dynamics for manufacturing conveyors and conveying equipment look better and better. The conveyor price index rose 1.4% in 1998 after rising 2.2% in 1997. If cost trends are any guide, conveying-equipment prices will become even more attractive in 1999. The industry's direct manufacturing costs rose only 0.2% in 1998 thanks to price declines in key production materials like carbon steel and electric control equipment.
