Border Lines

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 2/1/1999

* Mexico's Yucatán Peninsula is growing as a gateway to "Section 807'' garment assembly operations in Central America. To serve that market better, Crowley American Transport last month launched Ro/Ro (roll-on/roll-off) service between Lake Charles, La., and Progreso, Yucatán's largest port. Vessels depart every five days and call at Puerto Cortés, Honduras, and Santo Tomás, Guatemala, after leaving Progreso. The new service accommodates 40- and 45-foot trailers as well as a full range of dry and refrigerated ocean containers. The Gulf service complements Crowley's containerized service from Jacksonville and Port Everglades, Fla., giving shippers two southbound and two northbound sailings each week.
