Digital Color Printer Produces High-Quality Labels
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 2/1/1998
A new software algorithm called Microcell enables Astro-Med's CQL-4 Color QuickLabel digital color thermal-transfer printer to make labels of near-photographic quality. The CQL-4 printer can generate labels at four inches per second.CQL-4 uses a thermal-transfer ribbon, which contains permanent ink in a convenient dry form, to print on a wide variety of label materials, including paper, polyester, metallic polyester, PVC, and card stock. It can print labels as wide as 5 inches and as long as 5 feet in one pass. The printer produces labels at 300 dots-per-inch resolution in more than 250 different process colors.
The printer, which supports a number of popular bar codes, works with either a PC or Macintosh computer. It supports such software packages as Astro-Med's Color QuickLabel for Windows, Corel Draw, Adobe Illustrator, and Quark Express.
The MicroCell software algorithm is available at no charge to existing CQL-4 owners to upgrade their printers. Astro-Med also offers comprehensive training for new users.
