Interface Allows Internet Access to Remote Printers
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 2/1/1998
The "PrintNet" network interface from Printronix lets network managers and print users manage and access ProLine model printers via the Internet by using an ordinary Web browser.PrintNet features a built-in Internet home page that can be reached by an Internet browser. An administrator then uses a set of point-and-click screens to establish and change the printer's network settings and status. The administrator, for instance, can select the type of network operating system to be used and change the printer's Internet Protocol (IP) address and gateway routing.
The PrintNet status screen provides information about printer activities, including on-line/off-line condition, paper out, print queue jobs, and idle or active status. The interface is compatible with such local area network protocols and operating systems as Windows, Unix, and Novell NetWare. Because the interface resides within the printer, no external power supply or print server is required.
PrintNet is available separately for $495 or as a factory option on ProLine printers.
