Pen Computer Goes Mobile
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 2/1/1998
LXE and Fujitsu Personal Systems Inc. have jointly released the radio-frequency-enhanced Point 510 mobile pen computer. LXE added radio-frequency wireless capability to Fujitsu's original Point 510 unit through the integration of a LAN radio and an internal antenna. These additions allow the unit to function in a wireless local area network. When a mobile user enters data into the unit, it can be communicated directly to a host system computer. The unit itself is a lightweight computer with a 5386 100-MHz microprocessor that runs in a Windows 95, MS-DOS, or Windows for Workgroups operating environment. Features include a 1.6 GB hard-disk drive, 8 MB DRAM, a color SVGA display, standard keyboard, microphone, headphones, and IrDA ports. The lithium ion battery provides about four hours of active use on one charge.
