Trucking
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 3/1/1999
Less-than-truckload rates continued to edge up in January, climbing 1.1% from December 1998 levels . By contrast, truckload carriers raised prices by only 0.4% from December 1998 to January 1999, on average. The forecast calls for all trucking and non-air courier service rates to rise by 2.0% in 1999. After hikes of 2.5% in both 1998 and 1997, this slight respite in trucking rate inflation will be welcome to shippers. If the economy heats up, however, then these forecast numbers could prove to be too low.
