A "new dawn" for Pitt Ohio

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 3/1/1999

The race for the earliest morning delivery has a new contender. Regional less-than-truckload carrier Pitt Ohio Express Inc. recently announced the launch of its "Pre-Dawn Express," a service that makes deliveries as early as 2:00 a.m. and continues until 8:00 a.m.

"This is similar to dedicated service, but it is partially integrated with our regular LTL freight," says Tony Dalesandro, vice president of operating services for Pitt Ohio. "Customers get the benefits of dedicated service without the cost."

Trucks start their runs as early as midnight from dedicated areas located in existing Pitt Ohio hubs. The majority of the shipments delivered are left unattended, but shippers may arrange for drivers to unlock doors or disengage and re-engage alarm systems to ensure deliveries are left in a secure place. Pitt Ohio will tailor the service so that deliveries can be made at any time during the night. Pre-Dawn customers may contact the carrier through a service center that operates around the clock.

Dalesandro says the service, which currently is available in Pitt Ohio's Mid-Atlantic service area, is ideal for customers who would gain a competitive advantage by receiving shipments prior to the beginning of their business day.
