Mitsubishi Fuso has redesigned its class 3 through 7 trucks for increased safety and performance. This year's newest feature is a "drive-by-wire" system. This system, which will be featured in all Mitsubishi Fuso trucks, uses an electronically controlled governor that regulates engine speed, providing better engine performance and efficiency. In addition, the system reduces emission levels and offers drivers a quicker throttle response, says the manufacturer. The 1999 models include the addition of an energy-absorbing steering wheel and steel side-door impact beams. The class 6 through 7 trucks also feature a supplementary floor-sill reinforcement that helps to maintain cab integrity in the event of an accident.
The new models also are designed for improved driver comfort and visibility. The cab's design enables drivers to perform pre- and post-trip inspections with ease. With its torsion bar system, the cab can be easily tilted. Its three-point suspension system and rubber insulators help to isolate the cab from road noise and vibration. The deep, wide windshield and low-cut door windows enhance driver visibility.
Other features include power steering, an adjustable bucket-type driver's seat, a passenger seat that accommodates two people, backlit instrument panel, and intermittent windshield wipers.
