Total employment in the trucking industry rose by 3.1 percent between January 1997 and January 1998, despite the well-publicized driver shortage. Warehousing jobs have grown by an even stronger 4.8 percent during the past 12 months. In both trucking and warehousing, average weekly earnings have increased at a much faster rate than overall consumer inflation.
