Border Lines
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 4/1/1998
Now that Mexico's economy is back on the growth track, demand for logistics services there is skyrocketing. Two of the biggest U.S.-based players south of the border are responding by expanding their facilities and service offerings. Consolidated Freightways has created a new Mexico operations division. The division's offerings include expedited air and truck service and CF's "LinkUp" service, which merges cargo from different origin points into a single delivery. CF Mexico now operates seven terminals; four more terminals will open in Mexico later this year. UPS Worldwide Logistics, meanwhile, will open a 240,000 square-foot logistics center in Cuautitlán, just north of Mexico City. The new center, which will provide warehousing, pick-and-pack, and customized value-added logistics services, will have six times the capacity of WWL's current facility.
