Brawny, but not too big

Mid-sized trucks have a lot to offer shippers that need heavy-duty capacity for shorter hauls.

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 4/1/1998

Hino Diesel Trucks offers a wide range of class 5, 6, and 7 cab-over vehicles, all with turbo intercooled engines ranging from 150 to 225 horsepower. Four- or six-speed manual overdrive transmissions are standard, and four-speed automatics are optional on most models. The Model FB1715 Class 5 truck is designed for city deliveries, boasting a GVWR of 16,500 pounds while offering better gas mileage than many light-duty trucks, says the manufacturer.

The FD2218LP (low profile) is a low-frame Class 6 truck with a GVWR of 22,300 pounds and a payload capacity of 13,700 pounds. Typical applications include furniture and appliance delivery, car carriers, bakery, and laundry service. The FD2218 and FE2618 models, with payload capacities of 13,700 and 16,000 pounds, are adaptable to almost any Class 6 application, says the manufacturer. Hino's Class 7 line, models FF3018 and FF3020, offers flexibility with its 10 different versions. They are suitable for such heavier-weight applications as refrigerated foods, newspapers, and auto parts. Also in Class 7 are the SG3320 and SG3323 two-axle straight trucks. Wheelbases can accommodate bodies ranging in length from 18 to 30 feet.
