Imager Permits Remote Keying of Label Info

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 4/1/1999

The AccuVision Model 3624 imaging system now features "VisionKey," which allows remote keying of bar-code label information.

The AccuVision camera in the system reads and decodes both linear bar codes and 2-D symbols. VisionKey, meanwhile, augments the decoding of information and enables automatic sortation. It transfers high-resolution parcel images to remote key-entry stations where operators enter data. The images are displayed on a PC screen and can be rotated, enhanced, and enlarged as required. Label information from non-bar-coded parcels can be linked to a unique tracking number and used to generate machine-readable labels for further automatic sorting. In automated parcel hubs and distribution centers dependent upon customer- or vendor-supplied labels, the system allows 100-percent sortation even if less than 100 percent of the parcels are bar coded.

The system uses standard Windows NT-based personal computers and 100 Base-T Ethernet connections. FOR INFORMATION CIRCLE 128
