Lubricating Oils

Although petroleum costs have begun to rise, many products that carriers buy to keep their fleets running smoothly remain a bargain. Take lubricating greases, for example. Average prices of these products rose 0.4% in the 12 months ending with February 1999, while the cost of manufacturing greases actually plunged 10.6%--something carriers should keep in mind when negotiating with suppliers.
