Water

By Daryl Delano -- Logistics Management, 5/1/1998

Average prices charged for waterborne freight movements were up 0.4% between February and March. This was the first monthly increase in average water-freight sector prices in the past five months. Nonetheless, we're expecting the fallout from the Asian economic crisis to exert downward pressure on inbound and outbound liner prices in the months ahead and for overall water-freight inflation to be negligible for the year 1998

% CHANGE VS.: 1 month ago 6 mos. ago 1 yr. ago

Inbound liner -0.1 +2.6 +0.3

Outbound liner -0.1 +1.7 -1.0

Domestic deep sea +4.0 -6.2 -6.0

Grt. Lks.-St. Lawrence -1.3 +0.7 -1.0

Mississippi River -2.5 -5.6 -6.4
