Companies recently honored for operational excellence

A. Duie Pyle Inc. and Pyle Transport Services recently received Appleton Papers' Eagle Club Award for outstanding service at Appleton's Harrisburg, Pa., distribution center.

Exel Logistics Americas, a supply-chain management provider, has earned the Excellent Supplier Award from PPG Industries for its performance in 1997.

The Georgia Freight Bureau Inc. has presented Itasca, Ill.-based NEC Technologies and Irvine, Calif.-based BAX Global with its Best Practices Award in the Customer Returns Management category for 1998.

O&S Trucking received the Grand Prize award in the Truckload Carriers Association's 1997 National Fleet Safety Contest. O&S Trucking won for the category of under 25 million miles annually.

Calsonic North America has given Mitsui O.S.K Line (MOL) its "Supplier Excellence" Award for 1997. This is the second year the ocean carrier has received the Supplier Excellence award.

Landstar Ligon Inc. was recognized by Shell Chemical Co. for outstanding performance. In 1997, Landstar Ligon scored 99.28 percent out of a possible 100 points to earn Shell Chemical's Land Transportation Four-Star Carrier Award.

Givens Trucking Co. Inc. was recognized for its continuing commitment to safety when it received insurance company Liberty Mutual's Gold Award for achieving an accident frequency of fewer than 0.125 accidents per vehicle in 1996-1997.

Con-Way Western Express and G.I. Trucking Co. were awarded the 1997 American Trucking Associations' President's Trophy for safety. The award recognizes outstanding safety programs and performance by each carrier and its drivers.

BAX Global India recently received the country's "Golden Peacock" National Quality Award in the service sector. The award was presented by the country's Institute of Directors, a non-profit body designed to promote the practice of continuous quality improvement.
