Roadway shifts executive lineup

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 5/1/1998

Roadway Express made several changes to its executive ranks during the corporation's annual meeting in March. Shareholders elected Michael W. Wickham chairman of the board and chief executive officer. Wickham, 51, rose to that post after 30 years with the company. He was president from 1990 until 1996, when the carrier was spun off from its parent company, which became Caliber System. Wickham also chairs the Motor Freight Carrier Association, which represents major unionized LTL carriers.

James D. Staley, a 27-year Roadway veteran, succeeds Wickham as president of the national LTL carrier. The 48-year-old Staley, who was vice president of operations, also was named chief operating officer. John D. Bronneck, 50, formerly vice president of Roadway's Northeast division, becomes vice president of operations. Terry M. Gilbert, 41, who was district manager of the Northeast division, succeeds Bronneck as vice president of that division.

J. Dawson Cunningham, 51, who was treasurer and vice president of finance and administration, was elected executive vice president and chief financial officer. Thomas V. Lopienski, 44, was appointed vice president of human resources.
