Hand Held Adds More Features to Dolphin Terminal

Hand Held Products Inc. has expanded its Dolphin line of scanner-microcomputers with the introduction of two new models. The first features a high-visibility laser scanner that allows it to read bar codes in direct sunlight or high-intensity artificial light.The new unit's scan engine has a 650-nm diode beam that lets the worker aim and scan more accurately in bright sunlight conditions. It can read bar codes from distances of up to 36 inches.
In addition, Hand Held has introduced the Dolphin RF model, which is equipped with radio-frequency capability. The unit comes with a miniature radio developed by Proxim Inc. of Mountain View, Calif. The radio operates in a 2.4-Ghz frequency band.
The Dolphin terminals are PC-compatible with DOS 386 architecture. They can be programmed using such standard computer-industry languages as Microsoft and Borland C/C++, Visual Basic, and Excel Spreadsheet.
