By Staff -- Logistics Management, 5/1/1999
Sterling Truck Corp. now offers its 8500 Series trucks and tractors, which are available with a variety of mid-range diesel engines. The units work well with nearly any body configuration to fit many vocations, according to the manufacturer. The 8500 models have fully welded, roomy cabs with extensive anti-corrosion protection, easy-to-read instruments, and three choices of interior trim levels. Cummins ISC or Caterpillar 3126 engines with standard turbocharging and air-to-air intercooling are available.
According to the manufacturer, streamlined styling features--such as concealed hood latches, an underhood air cleaner, sloped hood, and deep-cut side windows--provide fuel savings and outstanding sight lines in all directions.
Other options include a driver-controlled locking main differential for traction on slippery surfaces, an environmental filter to keep the cabin dust free, a clog-resistant radiator to preserve efficiency in dusty environments, overhead and floor-mounted consoles for added storage, several mirror options, and a tilt-telescopic steering column.
