ATA Publishes Analysis of U.S. Trucking Trends
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 5/1/1999
The American Trucking Associations (ATA) has released the 1999 edition of American Trucking Trends, a guide to trucking facts and figures. Now in its 51st year of publication, Trends provides up-to-date statistics on trucking, its history, and the industry's impact on the national economy.Compiled from many sources, the publication highlights data on trucking employment, safety, earnings, highway-user taxes, trucks and the environment, and much more. It also provides a profile of the dynamics that have shaped the trucking industry during the past decade.
"The trucking industry is proud of the major role it has played in the economic expansion this country is experiencing," says Walter B. McCormick Jr., ATA president and CEO. "Trucks safely move 81 percent of the nation's freight .... When Trends puts all the numbers together, the work of our over 450 thousand trucking companies and their nine and one-half million professional truck drivers is impressive."
