Water

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 1/1/2000

Several currents are shaping the water-transportation price picture these days. In November 1999, average water transportation rates fell from the previous month's levels by 1.0%. After prices soared last spring and in the early summer, some pricing predictability will come as a welcome relief to shippers. Unfortunately, the aggregate data still hide a lot of volatility. For example, from October to November, inbound liner deep-sea freight transportation prices rose 0.2%. Outbound liner prices, meanwhile, fell 8.0% during the same period.

% CHANGE VS.: 1 month ago 6 mos. ago 1 yr. ago

Inbound liner +0.2 +8.4 +53.9

Outbound liner -8.0 -9.3 -11.5

Domestic deep sea 0.0 +0.2 +1.3

Grt. Lks.-St. Lawrence 0.0 0.0 -0.1

Mississippi River -3.6 +13.0 +3.6
