Heavy trucks could be averaging 7.1 miles per gallon

Heavy trucks could be averaging 7.1 miles per gallon by the year 2020, compared with about 6.0 miles per gallon now, according to the Annual Energy Outlook produced by the federal Energy Information Administration. Three technologies in particular will be responsible for the improvements: advanced low-resistance tires; advanced low-emission, high-efficiency diesel engines; and advanced drag reduction.
