Steerable Reverse Caster Improves Lift-Axle Suspension
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 1/1/2000
Hendrickson Auxiliary Axle Systems has added a steerable reverse caster model to its "Ultra" series of auxiliary lift-axle suspension systems. The new "ParaRev Ultra" caster features a shift mechanism that allows fore and aft axle movement and full self-steering in both forward and reverse directions. This allows the auxiliary axle to remain on the ground when the vehicle is in reverse. It also reduces stress on the suspension and frame, improves traction in reverse mode, and reduces opportunities for operator error.
With a capacity of 13,200 pounds, the ParaRev provides 13 inches of axle travel and a 25-degree wheel cut for maneuverability. It can be used in both pusher- and tag-axle applications.
The total installed weight of the ParaRev system--including hubs, drums, brakes, and slack adjusters--is approximately 1,170 pounds. The system is compact, measuring only 27.9 inches from forward hanger edge to axle center.
