EProphesy.com, an all-inclusive and free Web portal site for the transportation industry, has changed its name to mile.com to help users locate the site more easily. This site offers direct access to 20 online load-matching services.MicroAnalytics recently expanded its TruckStops Routing & Scheduling System's interface with ALK Associates' PC*MILER software to include PC*MILER 2000 products. The TruckStops/PC*MILER interface, developed in 1998, allows users to determine the optimum route sequence with TruckStops and then calculate the mileage and produce driving directions using PC*MILER.
Burnham, a third-party logistics provider, has opened a new multiclient logistics facility in Minneapolis. The new facility serves clients primarily in the ATM, essential services, and copier sectors within a 300-mile radius of the city.
Jay-Fer Enterprises has purchased the trucking fleet of Idahoan Foods. The newly acquired tractors and trailers form the core of a new nationwide truckload carrier, Golden Valley Transportation.
CNF Transportation Inc. has changed its name to CNF Inc. The change reflects the company's expansion beyond transportation to include supply chain management services.
TIP, a GE Capital Co., now offers an Internet-based service that provides access to sales inventory of over-the-road trailers, intermodal containers, and storage and cartage equipment. The service is available at www.tiptrailers.com.
According to Airborne Express, its QuikMail service lets customers send generic bulk shipments of "flat mail" at rates that are 15 to 20 percent lower than USPS First Class. Transit times are 1 to 2 days slower than First Class mail rates.
