Freight forwarders may be gaining market share
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 3/1/2000
Freight forwarders may be gaining market share, according to a report by analysts at the investment firm Bear, Stearns & Co. The analysts' fourth-quarter survey of shippers shows respondents are using freight forwarders for 79 percent of their heavyweight international airfreight shipments. That was up 3 percent over the second quarter's survey and 10 percent over the first quarter's report. The reason, the analysts speculate, is that the forwarders are gaining leverage with airlines as a result of trade imbalances, making their services more attractive to shippers.
