Benchmarking close to home

Benchmarking close to home: Nearly two-thirds of companies say they are benchmarking their warehousing operations, but most of them are mainly comparing internal operations. That's one of the most important findings of a study issued by the Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC). Based on the results of a survey that was conducted last June, WERC found that only 21 percent of the survey respondents were benchmarking against warehouses in the same industry or against an industry leader. Only 11.5 percent reported that they were benchmarking business functions across industries. Most companies have been benchmarking warehousing operations for three years or fewer.
